LEGOLAND Homeschool Weeks

Calling all LEGO fans! LEGOLAND Homeschool Weeks at LEGOLAND Discovery Center Philadelphia is a fun-filled trip for building fans of all ages! For 3 weeks in September and 3 weeks in January, they offer a special discounted rate for homeschoolers. This is a great opportunity to visit as a group or just your own family.

Attractions

We started out with a ride on Imagination Express, an interactive train ride, where we each wielded a star wand that allowed us to compete for the top score by popping bubbles, blasting alien space ships, and more. We had fun on this one – our competitive sides may have come out!

We caught a high-action LEGO® City: Officer in Pursuit™ movie at the 4D cinema. Definitely recommend going to one of the movies. They’re about 20 minutes long & there are several show options.

Sorry moms & dads, it’s a kids only zone in the huge soft Pirate Adventure ship playground. There’s rigging to climb, a plank to walk, and a slide. This one is restricted to kids between 3ft-5ft tall. Both boys had fun playing in the ship!

C & I took an entertaining Lego Creative Workshop. Each participant received a bag of parts & the instructor led us through building this fun robot (pictured). The gentleman instructor was very engaging & worked well with the kids.

There was a multitude of entertaining hands-on attractions, such as building cars to race, a “Ninjago training camp”, and the Arctic Adventure room, as well as really impressive LEGO sculptures of Philadelphia.

Where there are kids, there is food. They have a coffee shop cafe inside the LEGOLAND area and plenty of tables to sit & eat. The website warns that outside food is not allowed except for babies and food allergies in children. Since my kids have food intolerances, I packed their lunches and had no problems taking them in. My husband ended up buying something in the coffee shop for lunch. I wasn’t super impressed with the coffee shop food selection & once you leave, re-entry is not permitted, so I ended up buying food for myself from a vendor in the mall on our way out. I was starving by then!

It would be helpful if the website listed their food options so guests could be better prepared. Next time I would probably schedule our arrival time for early afternoon, so we could eat lunch prior to going inside.

Real Mom Talk

This trip was definitely worth it. The kids had a blast. The Plymouth Meeting Mall is a little far for us & the January day we went was snowy/slushy with falling temperatures, so we didn’t want to stay too late into the afternoon. We played for a few hours & headed home. The website says that a typical visit is 2-3 hours and I would agree with that. 3 hours would be plenty of time to do everything there. I wouldn’t pay the full $24 admission rate, but I would most definitely pay $13 per person to go again. In fact, J is watching me type this and asking to go back after seeing the pictures!

A word to the wise… you exit THROUGH the gift shop! We had the boys take some piggy bank money to let them pick something out on their own. However, we discovered that LEGOLAND is cashless… so we ended up paying for the toys via credit card and the kids paid us back (which defeats the purpose and I’ll save the rant on the pitfalls of a cashless society for another day (or another blog)).

Cost

$13 per person*

This is a 48% discount off the regular admission price of $23.99* per person. This is the same as a group rate, without needing to coordinate and book a whole group at once.

How to book a trip

Homeschool Weeks – purchase tickets using the Homeschool Weeks online booking page to get the discounted ticket price. LEGOLAND Homeschool Weeks Jan 2023

If you plan to go as a group during LEGOLAND Homeschool Weeks, decide on a date and arrival time. Then each family purchases their own tickets from the online booking page.

The website indicates needing to show proof of homeschool status when you check in. You can see some examples of proof on the website. I took a photocopy of our affidavit (I don’t remember if they actually asked for it or not).

Group Visits

If you have a group that would like to visit LEGOLAND together at another time of the year, there are a couple of options. Official youth group organizations can purchase multiple tickets at once for $13* per person. Minimum 10 child tickets & for every 5 child tickets purchased, receive 1 free adult chaperone ticket. Make note of the requirements listed in the group prep guide – you need to provide proof that you’re an organization.

Friend & Family groups can also purchase tickets without being an official organization. Cost is $18 per person (28% off the regular price). Minimum 10 child tickets & for every 5 child tickets purchased, receive 1 free adult chaperone ticket.

Group sales: purchase tickets online from the Group Visits page.
